APS PRESS is proud to announce the NEW second revised edition of John Webster’s original masterpiece. This much-anticipated revised and updated DVD-ROM edition includes more than 160 fascinating video sequences!
With about 1.5 million species estimated to exist worldwide, members of the kingdom Fungi represent one of the largest biodiversity resources of our planet, fulfilling
crucial ecological roles especially in terrestrial ecosystems. Fungi are also one of the most diverse groups in terms of taxonomy, morphology and life cycles.
These aspects are covered in Mycology Vol. 1 and Mycology Vol. 2, the
long-awaited second edition of the original videodiscs published in 1990-1994.
Mycology Vol. 1 shows representative examples of the 'Lower Fungi' (Chytridio-
and Zygomycota). Also included are several intriguing groups of organisms such as slime molds, Oomycota and plasmodiophorids which are not taxonomically related to the fungi but are nonetheless widely studied by mycologists.
This interactive DVD-ROM contains about 160 film scenes illustrating the structure, development and reproduction of lower fungi and fungus-like organisms. The video
clips are supplemented with stills which show organization forms as well as plant disease symptoms caused by pathogenic fungi. The film sequences include
spoken narrative describing the activity on the screen. The video clips, painstakingly prepared and including many spectacular time-lapse sequences, demonstrate the timeless beauty and fascination of these organisms.
The contents of Mycology Vol. 1 have been extensively rearranged following a modern taxonomic framework.
A well-structured menu facilitates easy access to all sequences and images at the click of a button. These interactive DVD-ROMs will be indispensable teaching
tools at any level to any group of people interested in the exciting and mysterious world of the fungi. This DVD-ROM may also be used with a with a bar code scanner to facilitate stand-alone student assignments for specific modules on a lab PC. Instructors will enjoy the fast direct access to all menus and modules on this DVD-ROM. On the DVD-ROM there is a PDF file “Mycology Vol.1 printout.pdf” containing all of the menus and individual modules. Each page has a printable barcode. You can print any of the 302 pages that you need. When you
scan over one of the printed barcodes with the barcode scanner, the linked film module will immediately appear on screen.
"I think this will be of great interest to those
who teach plant pathology, mycology, and biology. For a teacher, it is very
flexible in switching back and forth between clear drawings and real life images
and video. Even in the video, you have the option to jump back and forth between
sections allowing you to control how much class time you use to show something
to your students."
